Conrad Centennial Singapore Mooncakes

Just as we thought the recession has hit the vendors badly (that's why they have not sent us any mooncakes), we got two boxes of mooncakes delivered to our office today. The vendors remembered us after all.

One vendor gave us mooncakes from Fairmont/Raffles City. That box of mooncakes were so so only, we found it a tad too oily.

But this one from Conrad Centennial Singapore was nicer, both in terms of packaging and taste. The packaging is a bit too extravagant and wasteful. A colleague said he is going to recycle it, so that it wont be wasted. He's bringing it back for his wife to put her jewelry. :-)

The office table's messy so pardon my messy background photo. Everyone's waiting to try it, so I only had like 10 seconds to snap the photos.

They are most probably trying to replicate the 'tingkat containers'.



When you open it, you see four layers.



There are four mooncakes with different 'fillings'.



We were all guessing how much of the cost went to the packaging. Probably the same amount as the mooncakes? But it does look very elegant as a gift.





We gave this a thumbs up in taste. The filling is not too oily, the skin is nice too.

Ming Kee Live Seafood @ McPherson Road

We are back again here. Our aunt heard us describing the food here and said we should bring her here, so we did. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our extended family came and there was 9 of us.

As usual, (I think is the lady boss) took our orders. I think everyone that comes here practically orders the same things! Depending on how many people, you order the different sizes and number of varieties.

We had 9 of us, so everyone could try more things. This is the crispy fish skin. The little ones in the family liked it the most.



The tofu, mushroom and broccoli was nice too. I love biting into braised mushrooms. *smile*



We were telling aunt about the 'hua la' that we had, so she was expecting it.
But we were told that there's no hua la today. They had the big lala today. It was equally nice. Oh, this sauce goes well with the crispy fish skin.



Aunt was glad that there's the bamboo clams. We thought the kids wont like it as it had lots of garlic. We were wrong. They actually liked the butter fried garlic with the bamboo clams.



Ah.. the crabs. Sis' favourite. Maybe not only sis, but a few person on the table's favourite.



This is the youngest girl on the table, our P4 niece picking up a crab. Her hands are so small and the crab claws so big!



The "Or Bit" (in hokkien) or Guinness Pork Ribs. They were good. Not very strong, just nice.



The pork ribs and this is part of the combi platter. The 'this' is fried chicken wrapped with I think it was tofu skin. Very nice and it's moist inside.



By the time we had all the above, we were already so full. Oops we over ordered.
But this is not bad though. The Nyonya style Patin Fish. We think the fish is slightly undercooked though.



The dessert to sweetened our meal. Or Nee - Yam Paste, that's topped with so much gingko.




If you are coming to try the food here, we recommend you place a booking. It's alwyas crowded.

Tang Ji Shao La @ 7th Mile Coffee Shop

Just beside the 'Curry On' curry place, there's this Tang Ji Shao La stall. What caught my eye was the constantly long queue! Why is everyone queuing to buy it? Is it because the stall's new? I was thinking maybe it is the Channel U endorsement there.

So our family decided to try it as well! Those chicken, duck, meat hanging there seems to call out to us. Eat us! Eat us!



We ordered a few things to share amongst the 5 of us.
The roast chicken. It's tender and quite ok.



The roast duck is nicer than the chicken for sure. Not too oily as well.



My personal preference, I like the roast pork more than the BBQ pork.
Sis who don't like any hint of fats prefer the BBQ pork. LOL.



Springy noodles. Mixed up with the sauce and meat, they are lovely.



If noodles are not your thing, then have rice!



If rice is too dry, then eat it with soup. Their wontons are not too bad either.
Maybe we should have asked for more veggies in the soup. :-p..




I still don't know why the queue. The food's ok, not the best Shao La in Singapore, but it's better than most stalls. Maybe it's the brand new coffeeshop that's clean. The queue is still there since two weeks ago when we pass by this place.

Curry On @ 7th Mile Coffee Shop

There's this coffee shop that has been recently refurbished and there's quite a few new stalls that looks interesting.

I saw this stall with a name "Curry On". Sounds interesting and I felt like having curry so I ordered a bowl of curry.

If you expect coconut milk enriched thick curry, this place might not be where you can find it. The curry here is without coconut milk. This curry taste rather good!



You can order rice or bread. I took the baguette.
It's great for dipping with the curry!



Oh yes, they give you papadams as well.



Not too bad, I would like to try out the other curries they have and to ask them some questions. ;-)

Popeye's Chicken and Biscuit @ Singapore Flyer

I was here with Momo today (Friday) because we are here for F1 practice race and we had the Singapore Flyer passes.

The only place that you can visibly see lots of people is at Popeye's. Everywhere else seems quiet. So we just followed the crowd.

We had two kinds of meal. The Maxi Meal which almost every table is having. The other was the chicken meal with fries.



Chicken strips were ok. The fries was also ok. Somehow the previous time we were here it was better. It just did not taste as nice as before.



The maxi meal had a piece of fried chicken, 2 chicken strips, 2 drumlets, a biscuit and mash potato. It is either my tongue's not sensitive to salt, or it is quite tasteless today. haha...



The mash potato was also a little light on taste. I was actually thinking of KFC which has nicer gravy. Sigh. What happened to the nice Popeye's which we had in June 2008? If you compare the photos and what I journaled last time with what we ate today, it's quite a contrast.



The biscuits that used to have salty crust is also not salty. The chicken strips was the only thing that made us happy. Oh, maybe the softdrinks too.

We hope they buck up, if not, they might end up like most eating places in Singapore with an average shelf life of only 2 years.

Two Chefs Eating Place @ Commonwealth

One of our close friend was in Singapore and we called up the rest of the 'gang' to have dinner together. KC placed a booking at one Cafe, and on the night before the makan, he was told they forgot his booking and apologized.

We did not want to change the date so we went to Two Chefs at Commonwealth instead. There was like 17 of us, and we had to sit in two tables. Two tables of exactly the same food.

What did we have? KC and family arrived before all of us and took the libery to order first. We know this place is busy and there's usually a long wait before the food's served, so it was a good move.

We did not really ask what he ordered and it was like a surprise each time a dish comes out. I think surprises are good. ;-)

We had their Marmite Chicken. A little salty which is expected, but it was nice.








Their butter pork ribs which is famous. Yes, it was nice. ;-)



The vegetables with 3 eggs dish. If you don't eat vegetables, you should at least try this.



We like cockles and we discovered we have lots of 'kakis' for cockles for this group of friends. We wallop 4 plates of it. It's a bit sweet and garlicy. ;-)



The You Tiao stuffed with fish meat and topped with meat floss. Nice!



Their 'signboard dish', the tofu and inoki toufu dish. Goes really well with rice!



When we thought we are done, more food came!
Oatmeal prawns. Nice...



We really thought the prawns was the last dish.
Then crabs started appearing. Black Pepper crabs. Taste good!



Next was chilli crabs. Sauce is nice too.
Yummy!



We did not regret changing venue. It was very satisfying indeed. Yummy!

Swensen @ Suntec City

Met Momo for lunch today. We were wondering what to eat and was walking around and we noticed that the Swensen's One for One offer is back again.

I am not sure if the offer is back at all branches, but it is for the Suntec City branch.
Probably because of F1 we reckon. Check with them if you want to come for this offer. The offer ends 27 Sep as stated on their promo board.

I am eating 'healthier' now. I had the Grilled Chicken Salad. I think it's quite nice. I like the greens!



I am just going to copy the description from their menu. ;-)

Their description: Crisp lettuce, cabbage and carrots with crunchy almonds and grilled chicken with pickled mayonnaise dressing.



Momo and I shared another salad. Prawn and Fruit salad.
Their description: Crisp lettuce with prawns and chunky tropical fruits with mango yogurt dressing.
The chunky fruit they served us was Nangka (Jackfruit). Very unique!



Momo is now the carnivor. This is her Mega Mushroom Burger.
Their description: Sautéed mushrooms atop juicy beef patty, with gherkins, melted cheese and pepper sauce. Served with U.S. fries and coleslaw.

I tried some of it. Not too bad. The beef patty has this very old fashion taste. Not sure how to describe it. It's not the big M or BK burger taste. :-) The mushroom makes it rather nice.



If you happen to be around this area, and want to look for not too bad a deal. It looks like we are not the only people attracted to it. We noticed the tables around us, whenever they were seated, they immediately ask the servers how the deals goes.

Everything on the menu is valid for the one for one, except ice cream and drinks. We heard it so many times today!

I just realised something!! Why did we order 3 things? We should have ordered 4 items! The fourth item would be free right? Oh silly billy us.

Haagen Dazs @ Holland Village

It's Momo's birthday this week, and this was the after dinner dessert I had with Momo and her parents. For some (undisclosed) reason we decided we would not have dessert at where we ate. We thought we would go somewhere else.

So, we went to Haagen Dazs. It has been ages since I stepped into this branch of Haagen Dazs! Since there was 4 of us, and instead of ordering 4 single or double scoops of ice cream with the 'different additions (toppings, waffles etc)', we thought it would be more fun to have the ice cream fondue and it cost about the same as ordering ice cream for 4 person anyway.




16 mini balls of ice cream, so each person eats 1 of each flavour. LOL



On the sides are also pound cake, chocolate cake and cookies.



There's fruits too. Strawberry, Green Apple and Bananas.



Look how nice I coat the ice cream in the chocolate fondue.
I made a double layer coating. Yummy!



After we placed our order, we were told there was a promotion!
We get two free drinks. Tea or Coffee. So we ordered 2 ice teas.
Ice Camomile Tea with Aloe Vera cubes.



The good old Ice Lemon Tea. (with Aloe Cubes too!)



We also ordered cappucino as extras.
Not a bad deal eh. But we remembered it used to be much much cheaper. Anyway, it was fun.
