Commonwealth Crescant Fei Zai Eatery @ Holland Village Food Centre

This is my colleague, Wire's recommendation. He seems to like the Braised Beef Noodles at this stall at the Holland Village Food Centre.

So, we took a quick bus ride to have this. All five of us at the same thing. 3 with noodles, and 2 with kuey teow.

It seems that eateries with the name "Fei Zai" always do better? LOL...

Commonwealth Crescant Fei Zai Eatery @ Holland Village Food Centre

Beef was tender and there is at least one piece with beef fats for those who like it.

Braised Beef Noodles

I had the kuey teow version. It's not very salty. (for my bowl) So I thought it was kind of a healthy dish.

Braised Beef Kuey Teow

It's food centre pricing. $4.

Zhou's Kitchen @ Anchorpoint

Last month, I posted a similar 'pig out' at Zhou's Kitchen. That was for cousin's birthday. This time it's aunt's birthday and she wants to go back there.

This time however we are trying from another branch of Zhou's Kitchen, the Anchorpoint branch.

Here's an aerial view of the delicious food we had. The 10 of us ate so much. We were being filled, filled till we want no more!

Buffet Hi Tea at Zhou's Kitchen

Shall not make this too long. There are just too many photos when you eat a buffet. Just posting some photos of the food that we particularly liked.

The keropok of course! With the sweet chilli sauce.

Keropok

The century egg pickled dish. We sure had many portions of this.

Century Egg Pickle

This was another favourite, we like the garlicy taste of it. The sauce and the pork slices just is so appetizing.

Garlic White Pork Slices

The Ngor Hiong and the sweet chilli sauce.

Ngo Hiong

The Char Siu Pow is nice. So is this Char Siu Sou.

Char Siu Sou

These mini egg tarts are a real hit! The little ones sure like it a lot!

Mini Egg Tarts

I like French Beans, so of course I'll say it's nice.

Fried French Beans

I am not a fan of this, but many people on the table liked it. Ku Chai Pastry. I think Ku Chai is a very acquired taste!

Ku Chai Pastry

Many liked the cold meats too. This is the sliced cold beef. The drunken chicken was not too bad too.

Cold Meat

If you have more than 6 eating, you get this crab.

Steamed Crab

For dessert, this was once hot favourite. Peanut Tang Yuan.
We also loved the mango and guiling gao dessert.

Peanut Tang Yuan

There seems to be many buffets going around. Eat in moderation!
Happy Birthday Aunt!

Spice Junction - The taste of Kerala @ Race Course Road

For lunch today, we were thinking of just going to the canteen to have a quick bite. But when we got downstairs, someone suggested why not go for Indian food today? Race Course Road? Sure! With a loud resounding "kia! mai tu liao". (yes, don't waste time, let's go)

(We are not in the company of colleagues who dislike food with lots of spices today. )

So we hop on a cab to get to Race Course Road. A colleague recommend that we should try this place that has very nice Biriyani. He came before and thinks that the rest of us should try it. So we head off to Spice Junction. Apparently, this place is opened by an IT guy, a hardcore programmer!

For drinks, 1 of us had the tea, another the masala tea. Dpuk saw on the menu - "Sambharam : Traditional Drink for Hot Summer." Being adventurous, he decided to order it.

The fun starts when this drink came. We discoverd it's an acquired taste. He just could not finish it, and the rest of us also can't take it when we tried it. It tasted like white curry sauce! (pardon us, those who love this, it's just us.).

When we came back to the office, we did an online search and found the ingredients. It has curry leaves, coriander, mint, salt, lemongrass. See, we were kinda right that it tasted like curry sauce. You all should try it. Maybe there's some who might like it. We are glad we tried it though, to get the experience.

Sambharam

This similar looking drink is the usual Sweet Lassi.
There's also the Salty Lassi if you like it. ;-)

Sweet Lassi

We saw this dish on the menu: Mutton Ishtew. Sounds interesting and the description was "The Traditional Stew Dish Of Syrian Christian Families Of Kerala". Someone the name just stands out, so we thought we should try it.

It's quite nice. If you don't like mutton because of the smell, you can take this. It has no strong mutton smell.

Mutton Ishtew

We were told when we ordered the Mutton Ishtew, we should eat it with Appam. So we ordered the Appams and they were lovely. We had one each.

Appam

Now, how many Indian places do you know that serves beef? Very rare right? This one does.
The "Beef Fry: is delicious. Yes, goes well with the Appam. :-)

Beef Fry

Now, the reason we are here is to try their Biriyani.
This is the Malabar Mutton Biriyani.

Malabar Mutton Biriyani

We agreed with 'wire' that brought us here that it is quite nice. The basmati were lovely. There's a whole egg buried inside, and the mutton was tender and flavourful.

Malabar Mutton Biriyani

We also had the Malabar Chicken Biriyani.

Malabar Chicken Biriyani

Also a whole egg buried in it. Ours was a chicken drumstick inside. Fragrant indeed.

Warning though, remember it's called Spice Junction, so you get lots of spices inside. If you dont like fennel seeds, black peppercorns, take them out first, they are generous with it.

Malabar Chicken Biriyani

Check out their other menu at http://www.spicejunction.com.sg/ if you want.

The whole Race Course Road is filled with delicious Indian Food. We are wondering if we should come back here to try the rest of the food, or go hopping to the other stalls. Hmmm...

Island Cafe @ Tangs

This was eaten last Saturday evening. After our french lunch and chicken rice, Momo and I was just too full to eat, but as a nice brother, we decided to call sis and asked if needed company for dinner. (although we had no intention of having dinner)

Sis said, if you wanna keep me company, you are most welcome to. So we did. We went to Tangs to meet her, and the girls just happily walked and shopped. For me, I did my usual walk at their Technology Bay. Seem that there has been some drastic reduction in the things they sell there. So empty! What happened?

The sales people at Tangs are always very nice. I was looking at something and the man said, if you are not in a hurry, come back on Wednesday or Thursday. There's gonna be a 12% off for card members. I don't know why, when the man said that, it just makes you makes you really happy that you shop in Tangs. Why ah?

After sis and momo are done with their looking around and shopping, sis said she is too tired to walk around, let's just eat upstairs.

Island Cafe upstairs is always a nice place to go. So quiet, so dim and relaxing and it has a great view. Now with ION Orchard coming up, you can see the bright changing neon lights when you sit facing the windows. Somehow Orchard Road has moved up the ranks of Tokyo or New York with the bright lights!

Sis wanted something soupy, so she had the Beef Noodles. The Beef Noodles is not too bad, not the usual taste that you get though.

Beef Noodles

Momo wanted something light, and ordered the Stuffed Beancurd. Oh, we forgot the portions here are big. So here's the big plate of stuffed beancurd to finish!

Stuffed Beancurd

I ordered the Ice Kachang. I think the ice kachang's meant for 2 persons. It's a huge bowl.
I kinda liked it. A little sweet but it's meant to be sweet right?

I spotted barley in it. You seldom get barley in ice kachang and it was a nice bite.

Ice Kachang

Nice place to rest your feet after walking around Tangs. Oh, you can pay your meals here with the rebates in your Tangs credit card.

Oh ya, it's Wednesday today. Today and tomorrow's when Tangs is having the 12% off sale. :-)
I wonder if we get 12% for meals?

Chin Chin Hainanese Chicken Rice @ Purvis St

Right after having our french meal (from yesterday's post) at the Bloggers Lunch, a few of us continued a few shops down the road for more food.

The few of us who are the gluttons/bottomless pit/hungry ones/whatever you want to call us are Recentrunes, BlackTieWhiteLie, Camemberu, HungryCow, Momo and myself.

We decided to have Riz au Poulet, so we went to one of the famous Riz au Poulet shop down the street. We went in and ordered a half "noir" and half "blanc". The auntie took our orders and in the typical placing of order style, repeated our order by shouting out loud. She shouted "Or Pek Ji Jiak".

Hang on, that sounds as if we wanted one roast chicken and one white chicken. "Auntie, auntie, wo3 men2 yao4 de4 shi4 yi4 zhi4 ji1, bu2 shi4 niang2 zhi1" (we want one chicken, not two)

The auntie said the way she put in our order was correct. You think I don't know French meh? Gunther's only few doors away, so near only, we eat there too lah. We eat until we can read their menu and speak French liao. You all want one chicken, half roasted, and half white 'tio boh'? **we were impressed**

Half Half - Half Roast, Half White

Chicken's not too bad. I think I preferred the Roast Chicken.
(Personally, I think I like the 5 star chicken rice than here. :-p)

Half Half - Half Roast, Half White

We also had a sambal fan su ye.

Sambal Fan Su Ye

This dish was quite amazing. It's mutton claypot stew and there's totally no mutton smell in it! You should try it too.

Mutton Claypot Stew

This place and the place opposite (also selling chicken rice) are rivals. You can do an online search and read about how some people insists this side is nicer, and others insists the other side is nice.

It sure was a fun day out. Eating, chit chatting, laughing with new friends and old friends.

p/s The part of us ordering in French only existed in my dreams. Paragraphs 3 to 5 are purely imaginary. :-)

NYDC Cheesecake

We celebrated one of our caregroup member's birthday few days ago.
Happy Birthday WC!

Here's the delicious cake that we had. A cheesecake from NYDC.

Think I did not adjust the white balance of the camera, the photo of the same cake looks different in all 3 photos! LOL...

He Sheng Mei Shi @ Dover Food Centre

This was lunch last week with colleagues. We went over to Dover Food Centre and on the way there, someone suggested sharing zhi char, and so we did. We were quite 'sian' (tired) of thinking what to eat. We ate at He Sheng Mei Shi because it's one of our colleague, 'old cat's' favourite place.

He Sheng Mei Shi @ Dover

As usual, someone will ask a few person to 'name a dish' / 'order a dish', so here's what we ended up with.

Sweet and Sour Pork.

Sweet and Sour Pork

Sambal Fan Su Ye.
This young shoots are really nice.

Fan Su Ye

Instead of having whole fish, not everyone fancy the bones, so we had fish slices instead.

Fish Slice

This really crispy and light prawn paste chicken was quite nice.

Prawn Paste Fried Chicken

This claypot tofu dish was ok except it should have had more gravy.

Claypot Tofu

Eating these kind of dishes, of course we have to go with rice. ;-)

Good ol rice

We were quite surprised that it was only $49 for the above.

Last Monday afternoon, I took half day off so that I could join a few food bloggers for a burger outing. It's always fun to meet the people behind the blogs ;-)

The floggers I met: LadyIronChef, AromaCookery, TheHungryCow, BlackTieWhiteLie , Evan's Kitchen Ramblings.

We had burger at Relish by Wild Rocket. What a cute sign they had downstairs.

Relish @ Cluny Court

You can just imagine, when the food's on the table, all the cameras snap on the food non stop.

The Burgers....

Some takes a few seconds to snap photos, some other perfectionist must get the perfect shot. So while waiting, you can see the chips on the plate start disappearing. lol...

The more orderly burgers

Now, let's show you the burgers that we had:

The Wild Rocket Beef Burger.
with arugula (rockets), sarawak pepper cream & sun dried tomato relish.
150 gms - $14.50 / 180 gms - $17
